Driver rescued from overturned car on Lanzarote road
A 50-year-old man sustained moderate injuries in a traffic accident on the island of Lanzarote on Thursday afternoon, 12 December. The incident occurred at 18:14 on the LZ-34 road, near the Zonzamas landfill in the municipality of Teguise.
Emergency response and rescue operation
According to information provided by the Canary Islands Government’s Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES 1-1-2), the accident involved a car rolling over. The sole occupant was trapped inside the vehicle. Upon receiving the alert, CECOES immediately activated the necessary emergency resources. These included a basic life support ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), personnel from the Lanzarote Security and Emergencies Consortium, and units of the Guardia Civil.
Firefighters from the Consortium intervened at the scene to secure the overturned vehicle and extricate the trapped driver. Once freed, SUC medical staff carried out an initial assessment of the casualty, who was found to have several moderate traumatic injuries. He was stabilised at the scene before being transported by ambulance to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife.
Investigation into cause underway
The Guardia Civil managed traffic in the area during the assistance operation and filed the corresponding report to determine the circumstances of the accident. The causes of the vehicle’s rollover have not yet been released. No hypothesis is being ruled out, which could range from a possible mechanical failure to external factors such as the condition of the road surface or a sudden manoeuvre.
