Storm Emilia Disrupts Flights Across Tenerife Airports

Storm Emilia Hits Tenerife Airports

Storm Emilia has begun to lash Tenerife, making its presence felt at the island’s airports. Several aircraft have been forced to abort their landing approaches at Tenerife North due to the adverse weather conditions.

Flight Diversions and Delays

Two flights, one from Lanzarote and another from El Hierro, have been diverted to Tenerife South. A flight from Amsterdam via La Palma has also been redirected to the southern airport. Dense banks of fog have settled around the runway at Tenerife North, with air traffic control reporting several ‘go-arounds’—a safety manoeuvre where a landing is aborted at the final stage.

Furthermore, more than twenty-five flights have experienced delays at the northern airport, affecting both departures and arrivals. It is anticipated that similar situations, with further delays and possible diversions to Tenerife South or other alternative airports for safety reasons, could occur throughout the day.

Advice for Travellers

All passengers planning to catch a flight in the Canary Islands, or those intending to pick up friends or family, are strongly advised to consult Aena or relevant authority sources for specific flight information. This will help avoid unnecessary crowds and queues at airport terminals.
