Global Film Giants Explore Gran Canaria’s Production Potential

Hollywood and European Producers Scout Gran Canaria

An influential delegation of producers and executives from the United States, United Kingdom, Finland, and Ireland is currently visiting Gran Canaria. Their mission is to get a firsthand look at the island’s filming locations, production services, and fiscal advantages for the audiovisual industry. This initiative, driven by the Gran Canaria Economic Promotion Society (SPEGC) through the Gran Canaria Film Commission, aims to solidify the island’s position as one of Europe’s most attractive destinations for international productions.

A Competitive and Unique Destination for Filmmaking

Minerva Alonso, Minister of Economic Development, Industry, Trade and Crafts for the Gran Canaria Council, emphasized the significance of this visit. “The arrival of production companies of this caliber confirms that Gran Canaria has established itself as a competitive territory with a unique value proposition on the international filming map,” she stated. She further explained that the strategy extends beyond simply attracting projects. “Our strategy is not limited to attracting productions, but to building a solid and sustainable industry. We want every shoot to leave a legacy; skilled employment, knowledge transfer, opportunities for local talent, and a real boost for the island’s business community.”

Unbeatable Filming Assets

Councillor Alonso highlighted the compelling combination of assets that Gran Canaria offers. “Gran Canaria today provides an attractive fiscal environment, a network of specialized companies, cutting-edge infrastructure, and a diversity of landscapes that is unparalleled in Europe.” The visiting delegation includes heavyweight studios such as Amazon MGM Studios, Crestmoore Place Productions, Celtic Entertainment Limited, and UCP / UIS, alongside other prominent companies and independent producers.

Touring the Island’s Premier Facilities

During their stay, the production representatives will tour the island’s key infrastructures. A central point of interest is Gran Canaria Platós, the audiovisual complex managed by the SPEGC. This state-of-the-art facility spans over 6,000 square meters and features two large-format sound stages, complemented by extensive technical support installations.

Strategic Opportunity for Growth

The SPEGC underscored that hosting these key industry figures represents a strategic opportunity to expand international networks, showcase local talent, and promote the unique conditions the island provides. These advantages include not just its diverse landscapes and climate, but also its stability, excellent connectivity, and favourable tax regime. This focused effort is already yielding significant results. So far in 2025, Gran Canaria has hosted the filming of 21 feature films, two series, and several documentaries, “confirming its role as a leading audiovisual destination in Spain and Europe,” according to the Council.
