International Cooperation Leads to Arrest in Lanzarote
In a demonstration of international collaboration, the Las Palmas Guardia Civil, working with the UK National Crime Agency’s Joint International Crime Centre and Nottinghamshire Police, has arrested a British citizen accused of repeated sexual assaults on a minor, also a British national. The suspect had fled the United Kingdom without appearing for his scheduled trial for sexual violence offences.
From Fugitive to Custody
Following the issuance of an international arrest warrant by British authorities, an investigation was launched that successfully located the fugitive on the island of Lanzarote. Officers from the Las Palmas Judicial Police were able to arrest him and bring him before the court before he could leave the country. He is currently in provisional prison, awaiting extradition back to the United Kingdom.
A Message of Justice and Cooperation
This operation highlights the critical importance of rapidly activating international cooperation mechanisms between Spain and the UK. It serves as a powerful reminder that police collaboration across borders not only strengthens justice systems but also ensures that fugitives cannot find refuge and escape punishment for their actions. The Guardia Civil has reaffirmed its firm commitment to the fight against sexual violence.
