Canary Islands beaches crowned best in the EU
This summer, the travel booking platform Omio, a leader in international train, bus, flight, and ferry reservations, published its annual ranking of the best beaches in the European Union. Among the 75 beaches analyzed by the platform’s experts, two from Spain’s Canary Islands achieved the highest scores. Securing the number two spot is Las Canteras beach in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, scoring 90 out of 100 points. Taking first place as the absolute best is Las Teresitas beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with an impressive score of 96 out of 100.
What makes a winning beach?
According to Omio, its ranking highlights the most affordable and well-serviced beach destinations for the summer, prioritizing quality of environment. The study considers key factors such as visitor reviews, average water temperature, and current prices for typical beach essentials. These include the cost of sunbed rentals, an ice cream, a local beer, and, for the first time this year, iced coffee and hotel stays. New additions to the methodology also include a comprehensive AI evaluation.
Las Teresitas: The ideal balance
Omio states that its study showcases beach destinations that achieve the “ideal balance between affordability and pleasant temperatures,” and this is where Las Teresitas truly shines above all other beaches analyzed. The platform explains that its AI (ChatGPT) awarded Las Teresitas its near-perfect score of 96 after being instructed to focus on the beach’s suitability for families, sand quality, wave conditions, and nearby infrastructure. This particularly included the availability of restaurants, toilets, and parking spaces.
The runner-up and other top contenders
Last year’s favorite, Las Canteras beach in Gran Canaria, occupies a respectable second place in the 2025 ranking. The third spot on the podium goes to Kleopatra beach in Alanya, Turkey, where a scoop of ice cream costs only about €2. Overnight stays in the area average around €92 per night, with even cheaper options available in the popular tourist city of Side, where rooms can be found for approximately €77.
