Major Renovation Planned for Maspalomas Lighthouse Promenade
A significant project to revitalize the area around the iconic Maspalomas Lighthouse is now underway. The Maspalomas Gran Canaria Consortium, an entity formed by the Gran Canaria Island Council and the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Council, has published the tender for the renovation works with a budget of approximately €400,975.79.
Transforming a Key Public Space
The project focuses on the comprehensive refurbishment of a 115-meter section of the Meloneras seafront promenade. This is one of the most frequented public spaces on the island, enjoyed by both residents and tourists alike, and is located next to the Maspalomas Lighthouse—a site officially declared a Cultural Heritage Site (Bien de Interés Cultural).
Scope of the Improvement Works
Funded by the Gran Canaria Island Council, the initiative includes a complete repaving of the entire promenade and the adjoining dock. A key feature will be the construction of a new, wide accessibility ramp designed to significantly improve and facilitate pedestrian mobility. The works will also involve demolishing the current pavement, replacing curbs and stepped seating, modernizing the public lighting system, and installing new street furniture. Furthermore, existing handrails will be replaced, and current ramps and stairs will be repaired.
Enhancing the Tourist Experience
The primary goal of this intervention is to boost the quality and appeal of this crucial tourist zone. By upgrading this emblematic space, the authorities aim to enhance the experience for both local citizens and the millions of visitors who come to Gran Canaria, for whom the lighthouse is a major landmark.
Project Timeline and Requirements for Contractors
Interested companies must demonstrate both technical and economic solvency. A crucial requirement is a commitment to reduce the partial execution timelines for phases 2 and 3 of the project. This is intended to minimize inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of sections of the promenade. Contractors will also be responsible for carrying out various complementary repair and adaptation tasks throughout the project’s duration.

The deadline for submitting proposals is September 10, 2025. All bids must be processed through the Public Procurement Platform (Plataforma de Contratación Pública).
