El Caletón natural pools temporarily closed
The Garachico Town Council has made the decision to temporarily close the famous natural pools of El Caletón to swimmers. This popular bathing spot on Tenerife’s north coast has been shut down as a precaution after routine water samples taken this Monday revealed unacceptably high levels of the fecal bacteria E.coli.
Ongoing investigation and apologies
The local government has immediately collected a second round of water samples for further analysis to monitor the situation. In their official statement, they also confirmed that initial checks of the municipal sanitation system have ruled out a sewage leak as the direct cause of the contamination. The Town Council has publicly apologized to both residents and visitors for the inconvenience caused by this necessary closure of one of the area’s most cherished coastal attractions.
