Canary Islands Vacation Rentals Filling Fast for August
If you’re planning a summer getaway to the Canary Islands in August, you’ll need to move quickly—three out of four coastal vacation properties are already booked for the peak holiday month. Rental data from Rentalia, the vacation division of real estate portal Idealista, shows overwhelming demand across the archipelago’s main tourist islands.
Island-by-Island Booking Trends
The analysis covers the four major Canary Islands destinations: Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife. While Fuerteventura shows slightly lower booking rates compared to last year, it still has 78% of its vacation properties reserved—meaning only 22% remain available. The two capital islands follow similar trends: Gran Canaria has 76% of coastal rentals booked, while Tenerife stands at 75.2%.
Lanzarote Leads in Demand
Lanzarote, the easternmost island, shows the most dramatic shortage of available properties. A staggering 89% of vacation rentals are already reserved, leaving just 11% still open for August bookings. This means only one in ten listed properties still has availability on the volcanic island.
Rising Demand Compared to 2023
Despite a slight national downturn, ten coastal areas analyzed by Rentalia show increased occupancy rates. Tenerife leads this growth, jumping from 69% booked in August 2023 to 75.2% this year. Other notable increases include Alicante’s coast (85.4% to 90.2%) and Gran Canaria (71.9% to 75.9%). These figures confirm the Canary Islands’ enduring popularity as a summer destination.
