New Protest Against Cuna del Alma Development
The activist group Salvar el Puertito has organized another demonstration against the controversial Cuna del Alma tourism project in southern Tenerife. The protest will take place on July 12 at 6 PM outside the home of Adeje’s mayor and Canary Islands PSOE leader, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga.
Luxury Villas Between Protected Areas
Cuna del Alma is a planned development of 420 luxury villas in Puertito de Adeje, situated between two protected natural areas and a site of national geological interest. Activists describe it as an ongoing environmental assault, blaming Mayor Fraga for enabling decades of unchecked urban expansion, corruption, and unsustainable construction.
Activists Target Project Backers
On June 16, around 150 protesters gathered outside the Baobab Suites Hotel, owned by Filip Hoste—one of Cuna del Alma’s developers. The demonstration aimed to expose alleged irregularities in the project to hotel guests, discouraging support for businesses contributing to Tenerife’s environmental degradation.
A Call for Accountability
Salvar el Puertito claims all legal avenues to stop the project have been exhausted, alleging fraudulent political support keeps it moving forward. “Those responsible for this ecocide cannot remain unaccountable, nor can citizens stay silent,” the group stated, urging broader awareness of the development’s impact.
