2026 Holiday Calendar: A Total of 14 Festive Days
The official 2026 working calendar for the Canary Islands features a total of 14 public holidays. Of these, nine are celebrated nationwide across Spain, with a further two being regional. To these 12 days, each local council adds two municipal holidays, bringing the total to 14 days off.
National Holidays Across Spain
In 2026, the nationwide public holidays will be: Thursday 1st January (New Year’s Day), Tuesday 6th January (Epiphany), Friday 3rd April (Good Friday), Friday 1st May (Labour Day), Saturday 15th August (Assumption of Mary), Monday 12th October (Spanish National Day), Sunday 1st November (All Saints’ Day), Tuesday 8th December (Immaculate Conception), and Friday 25th December (Christmas Day).
Regional Variations and Long Weekends
Autonomous regions have the power to move certain common holidays. This has happened with Thursday 2nd April (Maundy Thursday), which will be a holiday in all of Spain except Catalonia and the Valencian Community. Regions can also replace the Monday following a Sunday national holiday with a traditional local celebration. Consequently, Monday 2nd November (the day after All Saints’ Day) will be a holiday in Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, the Canary Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Castile and León, Extremadura, the Community of Madrid, and Navarre.
Workers across all regions can look forward to at least four long weekends: Good Friday (3rd April), Labour Day (1st May), Spanish National Day (12th October), and Christmas Day (25th December). In regions observing Maundy Thursday (2nd April), there will be a four-day Easter break. Furthermore, those who can take a day’s leave could extend the weekend for Epiphany (6th January), which falls on a Tuesday.
Carnival Tuesday: A Popular Local Choice
A total of 46 Canary Islands municipalities have selected Tuesday 17th February, Carnival Tuesday, as one of their local holidays. These towns include Adeje, Arona, Arrecife, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Puerto del Rosario, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and San Sebastián de La Gomera, among others.
